Class 37/0 diesel-electric locomotive No 37104 entered traffic in January 1963 after being outshopped from the English Electric Vulcan Foundry in Lancashire as No D6804. The implementation of TOPS (Total Operations Processing System) led to the locomotive being renumbered 37104 in 1974. In 1987 following British Rail’s rebranding of Railfreight and creation of five business sub-sectors, 37104 received the new three-tone grey livery and was one of only four locomotives to carry the Railfreight parent mark. While allocated to Stratford TMD in London’s East End from 1987 to 1989 the locomotive carried the depot’s distinctive Cockney Sparrow mascot on the body sides. 37104 was later moved to the engineering fleet before withdrawal in 2000, when it was broken up.
